Millions of peaches @ 09:50 am

Is anyone else going to head to Presidents of the United States of America on Saturday for a nostalgia trip?

I was waiting for my train this morning (I'm in work over these few days, curses!). It was running late, which really didn't bother me very much. After a few minutes, the station master announced over the PA:

"The 0735 service has just left Kildare and should be here in a few minutes. Irish Rail would like to apologise for the crap service that it provides."

Made my morning.

As a follow up to my last post, my bike was stolen from outside my house last night.

It's a Kona Dew Deluxe 2007 (silver). Things which make it distinctive

- Bor Yeuh pannier rack on the back.
- The sticker indicating the frame size is still on it (56cm).
- Plastic coating around the Kona logos on the frame is still intact.
- It has Time Atac XS pedals.
- There's a Delta Air Zounds horn on it.
- Lights from Halfords.

Pictures are here )

Please let me know if you or anyone you know is offered this bike for sale. It's very distinctive, Kona is one of the lesser known brands in Ireland, and that coupled with the pedals makes it pretty unique, I think.

Stuff for sale / free @ 11:45 am

I'm selling my stereo equipment (in order to upgrade)

- Marantz CD-63 MkII KI Signature Range CD player
- NAD C320 Integrated Amplifier
- Heybrook HB2 speakers.

It all fits together really well, and sounds loud and crisp. This can be demo'd as well. I'm looking for €350 for it, which is a knockdown price. The CD player alone is worth about €200 and has won "Best CD player ever" awards off Which Hi-Fi.

Also I have a pile of books to give away. I'll get around to making a list soon.

Browser musings @ 01:55 pm

Current Music: Microsolutions to Megaproblems

Opera 9 Preview 2 was released sometime last week. I have just downloaded it and had a play around with it and I am most impressed.

Perhaps the biggest change is Opera now has widgets support (a la OSX widgets). There's not many of them around at the moment, but the ones that are there look pretty useful. Searching from the widget on your desktop and having the result appear in Opera is now a possibility. They don't look too hard to develop either - there's a full tutorial on the Opera website. Also they have embedded a BitTorrent client with the browser, which seems like a logical step to me. I haven't actually used it yet though (don't use BitTorrent too much). There's also a very nifty content blocket which allows you to click on ads and then it makes blocks all images from that domain (although I think this may be a Firefox extension already?) When you cycle through tabs using ctrl + tab a thumbnail of each window tab appears (a la alt + tab in windows) which is very handy if like me you have anything up to 50 tabs open at the same time. There's also a feature that allows you to set cookie acceptance and CSS and other stuff on a per site basis.

All in all, it looks very good and shows yet more progression from Opera.

Stupid post thing @ 11:52 pm

For those heading to Bill Bailey on Saturday, come to The Hub in Temple Bar (on Eustace Street) on Thursday at about 8:30 to see who wins the competition to warm-up for him. Now that it's at the final stage the standard is pretty high and there's some pretty funny people performing, though none are as funny as Bill Bailey obviously. I think it's 12 quid in, possibly 10 with a flyer and the MC is Karl Spain if that's your kind of thing (I have no idea what he's like). Even if you're not going to Bill Bailey you should probably come along anyway.

I just got pit tickets to the Sigur Ros show.

I think it's great the way Sigur Ros are selling tickets that guarantee entry to the front.

Pity they cost €39.10.

Dour Festival was pretty good in the end. The sun didn't stop shining all weekend.

Over the weekend I saw : DJ Yoda, Fantomas, (The John Spencer) Blues Explosion, Why? & Miss Ohio, 13 & God, Dalek, Amon Tobin, Jamie Lidell, Roots Manuva, Sage Francis, Rahzel, Saian Supa Crew, Richie Hawtin, Sole, Devandra Benhart, Vive Le Fete, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, Styrofoam and a few others that made utterly no impact on me.

The best of those was probably DJ Yoda, Fantomas, Jamie Lidell and Roots Manuva. I didn't see Hawkwind as they were on at the same time as DJ Yoda, so there was no comparison there really.

The whole camping thing was deadly too. I came straight from the airport into work yesterday and I was like a zombie for most of the day. Getting home was a bit of an adventure too.

I think I'll probably go back there next year, it was everything a good festival should be.
